Why are Parents Worried About Baby Bottles?

Monday, March 3rd, 2008

baby-bottles.jpgBPA or bis-phenol A is the main ingredient in polycarbonate bottles, the hard clear non-breakable kind that most baby bottles are made from. Unfortunately, some BPA leaches from the bottles during heating of the milk, new research showing 5-7 ppb. This is a trace level but still has potential health risk to an infant due to inappropriate hormone exposure. BPA is an estrogen mimic (originally developed as hormone replacement therapy for post-menopausal women) and so should be avoided, especially in early life when imbalances can be “imprinted” for a lifetime. Glass bottles is one alternative. Another is Born Free, a plastic baby bottle that is free of phthalates and BPA.

Eco-Chick on Denim - 3/01 Show

Saturday, March 1st, 2008

Eco-Chick schooled us on how to make our denim greener:

1) Organic denim to cut down on pesticides involved in denim production (1 pound of pesticides per pair of jeans for the non-organic)

2) Darker jean colors - lighter ones involve extensive bleaching which leads to groundwater pollution

3) Extend the life of your denim with patches and repairs. You can mail your denim off to DENIMTHERAPY - this company will repair holes without patching - like new - at reasonable cost.
